University of Belgrade

University of Belgrade (UB) is the oldest university in Serbia and the largest in this part of Europe. Founded in 1808, it consists of 31 faculties, 11 research institutes, 13 University centers, Computer Center and the University Library with more than 3.500.000 volumes. It provides education in natural sciences and mathematics, technology and engineering sciences, medical sciences, social sciences and humanities.

It is comprehensive, research-oriented university dedicated to academic excellence, with academic community that is well positioned in the scientific world. Since 2012, the University of Belgrade occupies a high position in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, ARWU, released by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (http://www.shanghairanking.com/institution/university-of-belgrade).

At the moment, University of Belgrade offers more than 350 study programmes that have been harmonized with the principles of the Bologna Declaration. The aim is to make the University of Belgrade a part of the European Higher Education Area with an emphasis on mobility of students and staff. Foreign students can choose between two possibilities: they can choose one among the 71 study programs in English language, or they can enroll in the intensive Serbian language course at the UB – Faculty of Philology – Center for Serbian as a Foreign Language, and after they successfully complete it, they can choose any study program (from among 426 of them), offered at 31 faculties of the University of Belgrade.

Establishing, strengthening and developing cooperation with universities in Serbia, Europe and the world, as well as with international organizations dealing with higher education, has always been the main objective of the University. The University of Belgrade actively supports the strategy of internationalization (Strategy for the Internationalization of the University of Belgrade) and participates in international exchange programs with over 200 universities from all over the world, as well as in European projects. (Erasmus +). About 1000 outgoing and incoming students, teachers and non-teaching staff take part in international exchanges annually. The University of Belgrade is committed to continuing quality improvement of teaching and learning, including continuing professional development of academic staff through teaching competencies development courses delivered through the UB Centre for continuing education.
