The AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow is a modern state university which develops partner collaboration with colleges and universities in Poland, Europe, and all over the world. The university’s priority is the accomplishment of tasks and projects that are part of the knowledge triangle: education – scientific research – innovation. The AGH University of Science and Technology is a technical university where exact sciences are strongly represented and where they constitute the basis for the development of a wide spectrum of applied sciences at a gradually increasing role of social sciences and humanities. In line with global development trends, we create new fields of study, but at the same time we keep the conventional ones, which are indispensable for a proper development of science, technology, and the economy of our country. Our motto is work in the spirit of the university slogan “Knowledge – Passion – Bond”.
Centre of e-Learning at AGH University of Science and Technology (CeL AGH) was founded in 1996 as a life-long learning development unit that evolved into the centre that provides technical and pedagogical support in on-line teaching and learning. CEL AGH is responsible for the maintenance of e-learning infrastructure for the University, the support for teachers and students as well as for the research and the development in e-learning and blended learning.
CeL supports AGH’s academic teachers in their journey towards implementation of on-line activities into teaching practice. We provide support and training, develop open educational materials and maintain VLE for the academic teachers.
Designing for learning that is active, social and engaging is a real challenge in the on-line environment. At CeL we do our best to support teachers in creating engaging and effective on-line and blended activities. We build upon e-tivity concept of Gilly Salmon, embed Kolb’s model into e-learning design as well as support reflective learning. We promote e-portfolio based assessment and process to facilitate personal and professional development. Furthermore, we are eager to experiment, receive feedback and learn by practice.
In 2010, we launched Open AGH, Poland’s first academic repository of open educational resources for STEM subjects. Open AGH gathers courses, presentations, articles and multimedia available under Creative Commons BY-NC-SA licence. It contains materials submitted by the academics, but it also includes reviewed results of students’ work from “Notes on the Internet” competition. There are more than 100 resources available now and the repository is accessed by approx. 2500 users daily.
In 2013 Open AGH e-Textbooks were launched as the complete textbooks for maths and physics on a university level. The project also included development of an on-line system for creation, publication and review of the textbooks.
In 2016, we hosted Open Education Global Conference.
TECHNOLOGIES
Moodle-based learning environment has been the official e-learning platform for AGH-UST since 2004. It is administrated and developed by CeL. CeL also offers technical help for faculty’s administrators, course developers and students.
